The Journey
Sarah Counter explores a variety of genre relating to fibres using inherited techniques with modern processes. Her sources of inspiration are the people and natural world around her. She also enjoys focusing on themes which explore a historical or radical story.
As an artist in the making, Sarah likes to use her own photographs and sketches taken in situ as a starting point for further exploration on a theme or topic. Sometimes her work carries deeper meanings such as pain or challenge.
She uses recycled fabric and paper collage with traditional hand and machine stich embellishments. Currently she is exploring embroidery and applique on hand painted or printed background materials. She likes to tell a story with her art whilst allowing the audience to travel with her or on their own journey.
